Modern Leblon is the third release from the production duo HiFi Recluse.
With a nod to the 2000s HiFi Recluse have drafted a capsule collection of 6 recordings that serve as both homage and statement of a new direction.
Modern Leblon is a release that places itself outside the box, further cementing the HiFi Recluse aesthetic.
Single - Lacuna
Influenced by post punk electronica and the deep soulful house records of the downtown New York scene of the early 2000's. Lacuna is a head nodding minimal groove that aims to carry on the tradition of the dance floor stompers that paved the way and served as inspiration.
E.P. - ANIKA
Anika is the second offering from the production duo HiFi Recluse. It’s a conceptual piece that brings together polyrhythmic elements and a love for electronica.
“We set out to create a project that would be well suited to an audio bar. We both DJ and felt it would be a wonderful challenge to compose a tracklist of songs that would work for us at an audio space in (say) Brooklyn or London.
I was watching a YouTube clip about an audio bar in Barcelona and feeling rather inspired I started working on ‘the fit’ then Aki helped me finish it off and that process of collaboration encouraged us to push through with the concept.”
The word Anika has many meanings fearless or soldier is a common interpretation and this project pushes the boundaries and delivers on a concept designed for HiFi enthusiasts.
Debut E.P. - Output
HiFi recluse debut E.P. Output is a deep dive into the electronica influences that over the years inspired the 2 founders of Good Find Records. DJ Aka Suga and C.Live.
C.Live reflects on his youth when he says
“Whenever we DJ we tend to play obscure funk records from various corners of the globe but growing up in London I was heavily into the dance scene and dance music has remained a constant source of reference for me though I rarely play it at gigs”.
Aka Suga was inspired by the challenge.
“Getting out of my comfort zone and tapping into something modern and conceptual allowed me to broaden my skill set. I wanted to create something slick, shiny and elevated but with an underground feel. "
Drawing influence from deep house, North African rhythms. Balearic beats and Afro funk HiFi recluse have delivered a project that delivers on a vision that was a lifetime in the making, they even pay homage to the jazz greats that continue to influence them on Jazz Roll Call. Experiment with Arabic arrangements on Montmartre and draw awareness to mental health and healing with the track Therapy.
Available on all DSP’s Output is the perfect accompaniment to the end of year festivities and beyond.
